Theme Cruises
Theme Cruises are fast becoming the new fad as far as vacation ideas go. A theme cruise is something a cruise line creates on board one of its ships for a slated program, an event or series of linked events that often go on for however long the cruise is. Ordinarily all passengers are participants and part of the event. The idea almost sells itself. If you’re a fan of something, there’s nothing better than combining your interest with an exotic vacation.
The origin of themed cruises can be traced to when ships spent longer stints at sea for ocean crossings and didn’t stop at all the ports of call as frequently as they do today. Apart from that, the number of passengers for the cruises was much lesser, whereas today, it might be difficult to find a theme with wide enough popularity that 2,000 or more people will book for a special themed cruise. This is the reason their popularity on the larger scale has waned a little. But small liners and ships still offer a variety of themed cruises, and their popularity is growing.
One can find theme and special interest cruises on an over growing range of topics. Examples include annual events such as Carnival’s NASCAR voyage, Regent Seven Seas’ annual Chocolate Cruise and Holland America’s jazz festival. And since these kinds of themes have a broader appeal generally speaking, they do well as themed cruises, where just about everyone on board is interested in being part of the activities.
Of course, there are also smaller cruise ships running theme vacations of a more narrow appeal, for instance, “murder” mysteries. Apart from that several ships go to such intriguing, off-the-beaten-path kind of places that the trip itself carries off an adventure theme.
